An allergy is an oversensitivity of the immune system to the environment that surrounds you, causing your body to overreact to certain substances you have touched, inhaled or eaten which it identifies as harmful. When you are allergic to something, encountering the harmful substance causes your immune system to enter overdrive, frantically working to remove it from your system. Allergic responses vary in severity, from minor—such as sneezing or a runny nose—to severe, with some serious allergies initiating a life-threatening response.
Allergy testing provides an important precautionary step and may, in fact, have a significant impact on your quality of life. You may not even be aware that you suffer from an allergy. Proper allergy testing and treatment for allergen triggers can address the underlying cause of your symptoms to provide you relief.
At The Elborno Center, our patients’ health and wellness is our first priority. That’s why we’re proud to offer comprehensive allergy testing to identify the source of your allergy symptoms, and effective treatment that works for your unique needs. With this mind, we are proud to offer two forms of allergy treatment.
A Skin Testing Panel at The Elborno Center provides a convenient and accurate approach to determining if allergies are the underlying cause of your symptoms. The panel is applied directly to the surface of your skin, after which small amounts of antigen is released into your skin. Results are virtually immediate. Because only small traces of antigen are used to observe your reaction, the test is considered safe, quick and painless. The entire process takes only about 15 minutes.
Benefits of our Skin Testing Panel include:
Fingerstick IgE Blood Drop testing provides comprehensive allergy testing. This testing uses micro-array technology to test for 40 of the most common foods allergies, seven stinging insects, Penicillin and Latex. Additionally, the test isolates Immunoglobulin E (IgE), a specific antibody that plays an essential role in type I hypersensitivity which manifests in various allergic diseases including allergic asthma, most types of sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, food allergies as well as specific types of chronic urticarial and atomic dermatitis. Playing a primary role in responses to such allergens as anaphylactic drugs, bee stings, and antigen preparations used in desensitization immunotherapy, IgE testing plays a critical role in your overall allergy testing.
The process includes using a small skin prick to take blood from your finger, which is saturated over four spots on a blood card. The blood card is then sent for testing.
Allergy testing represents an important precautionary step for preventing possibly dangerous allergic reactions before they occur. Furthermore, allergy testing can have a significant impact on your overall quality of life when proper allergy treatment is taken. At The Elborno Center, we take allergy testing seriously, but we also value our patients’ time, which is why we are proud to offer you allergy testing that is as comprehensive as it is convenient.
